Opening a new wheel and tyre business is no easy feat, especially in today’s marketplace which is flooded with sub-par automotive equipment brands jostling for the lowest price. This can make it a real pain in the neck trying to distinguish the good from the bad.
Newly-established Christchurch wheel and tyre shop Alpha Auto & Tyres was faced with this very dilemma when being set up in early 2025, but directors Jis Paul and Ajith Sukumaran knew they wanted to start with quality gear from the get go. With that being said, there really only was one brand that fit the bill.
Enter Brendon Baddiley, Stocks Territory Manager for the South Island of New Zealand. Brendon walked the directors through our range of quality equipment from Hunter Engineering, eventually landing on a SmartWeight Pro wheel balancer, TCX54 tyre changer, and a WinAlign Lite wheel aligner.

When it came to hoists, Alpha Auto & Tyres required something larger than usual to accommodate long wheelbase vehicles – something other businesses simply cannot do. After taking this into consideration, Stocks supplied an Italian-made four post Ravaglioli lift (including jacking beam) to sit in front of the Hunter wheel aligner, offering a track length of 5100mm and up to 4000kg of lifting capacity.
